PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School girls’ varsity gymnastics team took first place in a meet against Barrington and Middletown on Sunday at Prestige Fitness & Gymnastics Center in Swansea.

The Patriots scored 131.85 total points, with Barrington, the home team, in second place with 130.15. Middletown came in third with 124.45 points.

Portsmouth’s Jordan Burnley led the Patriots in the all-around competition, finishing with 33.65 points, good enough for third place. She scored an 8.75 on the vault, a 7.45 on the bars, an impressive 8.8 on the beam and an 8.65 on the floor exercise.

She was followed by Rowan Snyder, who collected 33.15 for the all-around. Snyder scored an 8.5 on the vault, an 8.35 on both the bars and the beam, and a 7.95 on the floor exercise.

Gabriella Randazzo scored a 32.0 in the all-around with these individual scores: 8.5 (vault), 8.35 (bars), 8.35 (beam) and 7.95 (floor).

Rounding out the all-around competitors for Portsmouth was Caitlyn Wordell, with 31.55. She scored an 8.4 on the vault, a 7.05 on the bars, a 7.85 on the beam, and an 8.25 on the floor exercise.

Madison Both scored an 8.15 (vault), 6.8 (bars), and a 7.8 (beam), while Fiona Daly posted the following scores: 8.25 (vault), 7.4 (bars), 7.8 (floor).

Lucy Waldner scored 8.35 on the beam and a 7.9 on the floor; Nora Cooney scored 8.05 on the vault and 8.35 on the floor; Sierra Bonoff scored an 8.15 on the beam; and Kayla Oliveira scored a 7.2 on the bars.

Next up

Portsmouth is now 2-0-0 in both Region 1 and overall.

The lady Patriots have a busy weekend. First they’ll compete in a multiple-school meet at Strive Gymnastics in Somerset at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22.

On Sunday, they have a meet at Newport County YMCA at noon.
