Patriots improve record to 10-5

PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School girls’ varsity basketball team is on a roll, having won three games in a row in convincing fashion.

On Feb. 3 the Patriots defeated Juanita Sanchez on the road, 56-27.

Last Friday, Feb. 7, PHS overwhelmed Classical at home, 62-12.

In another home game on Monday, the Patriots dominated South Kingstown, 54-21.

Portsmouth now sits in sixth place in Division I with a 10-5 record.

The team will travel to St. Mary Bay View Academy for a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday, Feb. 11, before returning home to play West Warwick at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 13.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
