PORTSMOUTH — Portsmouth High runners Sean Gray and Allie Kaull both took first place among Class B competitors at Saturday’s Class and JV Cross-Country Championships, held on the 3.1-mile course at Ponaganset High School.
The PHS boys’ team placed third out of 13 teams in Class B. Gray, who won his race in a time of 15:45.69, was the first class champion for Portsmouth since Tom Barek in 2003. His time was the second fastest of the day.
Other top scoring finishers were Patrick Orbon, 8th, 16:59.32; Chris Vachon, 15th, 17:31.26; Caiden McHale, 16th, 17:39.62; Jack Marston, 18th, 17:42.01; Drew Forch, 36th, 19:03.78; and Tim Spooner, 37th, 19:06.25.
The girls’ team came in second out of nine Class B teams. Kaull’s winning time of 19:24.05 was the sixth fastest of the day.
Other top finishers for the girls were Hanalei Streuli, 10th, 21:34.13; Eleni Drosinos, 13th, 21:55.48; Reilly Porado, 17th, 22:30.96; Marin Cooney, 32nd, 23:32.62; Sara Higgins, 36th, 23:55.97; Addie Dalton, 41st, 24:29.80.
The boys’ JV team finished 14th out of 22 scoring teams. Henry Schmidt was the boys’ top finisher in 79th place out of 285 runners, with a time of 20:21.08.
The boys and girls will compete at the State Championships at Ponaganset this Saturday, Nov. 2. The boys run at 2:15 p.m., and the girls at 3 p.m.
