PORTSMOUTH — A 36-year-old Prudence Island resident was charged with numerous offenses after police responded to the island on Monday, July 5, to investigate a report of an intoxicated male acting disorderly.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, who then fled the area in a vehicle and failed to stop, police said. The driver was subsequently pulled over at 55 South Reserve Drive.

While interacting with the man, later identified as Matthew B. Kenerson, of 026 Pier Road, officers observed him to have bloodshot/watery eyes and slurred speech, with alcohol on his breath, police said.

Mr. Kenerson failed a field sobriety test, and he was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving/eluding police (first offense), and driving with without an active license (first offense). He was also cited for refusing a chemical test.

After he was transported by officers back to the island police station, it was determined Mr. Kenerson had also been involved in a domestic incident involving two people, police said. He was charged with two counts of domestic assault, and domestic vandalism involving malicious injury to property.
