The Portsmouth Abbey volleyball team crushed Beaver Country Day 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-8) in a home quarterfinals match during the New England tournament. The Ravens placed second in the Eastern Independent League with a record of 16-7 and head to the semifinals to play Miss Hall at home on Saturday.

Libero Sarah Edwards, outside hitter Maria Amián Parames and setter Bailey Howell have been instrumental to the team's success this season according to head coach John Huynh. Edwards a senior from Westport Mass., tallied ten digs during the match against Beaver. The libero averaged 13.9 digs per match for a total of 292 for the season.

"Sarah is is solid in the back row,” said Coach Huynh. “She sets up our defense and digs up those hard driven balls.”

Amián Parames a sophomore from Spain bashed 144 kills this season. “Maria does everything well,” said Coach Huynh. “We set her in every zone.”

Howell from Westport, had twelve assists and 8 aces during the match against Beaver. She compiled 209 assists this season.

Coach Huynh and assistant Scott Wilson emptied their bench against Beaver to get some younger players some action in case they are needed against Miss Hall on Saturday.
