Victoria Ann (Felkowski) Towers, 94, Tiverton

Victoria Ann (Felkowski) Towers of Tiverton passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Manor on January 16, 2021, at age 94.  She was the wife of the late Russell E. (Bud) Towers, Sr. to whom she was married for 62 years until his death in 2010. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Walter Felkowski and Sophia (Jacek) Felkowski.  She was the loving mother of Russell Towers Jr. (Denise), Donna Towers-Lemos (John), Scott Towers (Lynne), and Mark Towers (Kelli).

She leaves behind her grandchildren, Andrew Towers, Nicholas Towers, Russell Towers III, Olivia Towers, Aaron Towers, and Jacob Towers; and her great grandchildren, Julia Towers and Lila Towers, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Rita Connors, and her brothers Anthony Felkowski, Walter Felkowski, and Stanley Felkowski.

She lived a long and happy life where much of how she viewed the world was learned by growing up during the Great Depression of the 1930’s followed by the World War II years of the 1940’s. Those were tough times.  Her parents originally came to the United States from Warsaw, Poland (father Walter), and Allenstein, East Prussia, Germany (mother Sophia) just before World War I and settled in Fall River where she and her siblings grew up. She attended St. Stanislaus elementary school, graduated from BMC Durfee High School in 1944, and attended the Thibodeau Business College in Fall River.

Her life revolved around her family and supporting the efforts of her husband Russell in the Russ Towers Insurance Agency, Inc. on Main Road of North Tiverton, of which she was an original founding officer.  She was primarily a homemaker and supported the education and sports activities of her children (Russ, Donna, Scott, and Mark) and was especially proud that she and her husband Russell were able to fund a college degree for all of them.

She always made sure that her family had a comfortable and well-ordered home life so they could pursue their business, sports, and education activities. She was a member of the Tiverton High School Boosters Club.  An avid sports fan, she was very proud to be the only mother in Tiverton to have all three of her sons inducted into the Tiverton High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

During her life, she worked part-time at local companies such as the Chace Curtain Company, Braz Brothers Market, Edgars Department Store, and the Narragansett Clothing Company to bring in a little extra money to support the needs of her family.

She was very proud of her grandchildren, Andrew, Nick, Russell III, Olivia, Aaron, and Jacob, and talked about their school and sports activities all the time.  She loved it when they visited her, especially in her later years.  Their large and small successes in life kept her going as she found it increasingly hard to get around because of her orthopedic difficulties.

She loved the Catholic Church and always thought of herself as a true and faithful believer in Jesus Christ. She was a member of the Holy Ghost Church in North Tiverton for much of her life. At Holy Ghost, she belonged to the Women’s Guild and the Ladies of St. Anne.

She was outspoken and had strong opinions about many topics. That was who she was and she told you exactly how she felt about things.  She had the courage to express her feelings and did not hold thoughts within herself.

In the end, she lived a typical American life, strong in her convictions, where she had faith that the future would be better for her family if she and her husband worked hard to give them the opportunities to succeed.  She goes to her final resting place beside her late husband Russell. Her children and grandchildren will never forget what she did for them during her life and will think of her always.

Arrangements are with Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Road, Tiverton. Burial at Pocasset Hill Cemetery in Tiverton will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Elizabeth Manor, One Dawn Hill Rd., Bristol, R.I.  02809.
