A New England holiday experience at Coggeshall Farm

Posted

This holiday season, Coggeshall Farm Museum welcomes families and friends to celebrate classic New England traditions with two unique, family-friendly celebrations: A New England Thanksgiving event and a festive multi-day Coggeshall Christmas experience.

On Saturday, Nov. 23, the museum will host a Thanksgiving event that brings the late 18th-century to life. Guests can gather in the historic farmhouse to watch costumed historical interpreters prepare traditional dishes over the hearth, including chicken on a string and pies baked in hot coals. Interpreters will also demonstrate wooden spoon carving techniques in the woodshop, showcasing early New England culinary practices. Additionally, visitors are encouraged to explore the last of the fall harvest in the museum’s gardens and learn about various methods used to store crops for winter.

As December approaches, the festivities continue with lively Christmas celebrations on Dec. 14, 15, 21, and 22, featuring a variety of activities that capture the holiday spirit. Families can wander along a pathway lined with trees adorned with handmade ornaments, play traditional holiday games and gather around the decorated Christmas tree for storytelling. Visitors can participate in holiday crafting by creating their very own ornaments to take home. The event will feature festive music and a delightful gingerbread display.

On Dec. 21 and 22, Mason and Twine, a mobile coffee shop, will be on-site serving sweet treats, gourmet chocolates and crafted espresso beverages. Pre-registration is recommended for this event due to limited spaces. Early pre-registration before Dec. 1 receives $2 off per person.

“Each season at Coggeshall Farm offers unique experiences that bring people together to celebrate our shared history and the season’s joy. The holidays are a perfect time to visit Coggeshall Farm to celebrate old and new traditions with family and friends,” said Shelli Costa, executive director of Coggeshall Farm Museum.
