During the past three wrestling seasons, August Wesley has been able to train and support some of Barrington’s top wrestlers at both the middle school and high school.
This year the middle schoolers set high goals as they completed the 2025 season on a high note. They grappled their way to three varsity state placers as the Eagles took home two silver medals and one bronze. The JV team flexed its muscles by earning a runner-up finish at their state competition at Coventry High School. Barrington earned eight total medals including three finalists and one champion!
Wesley also worked with some talented high school wrestlers. The Eagles earned multiple team dual wins and finished 11th with 2 medalists.
Wesley, a Barrington resident, has competed at world championships and was selected as an athlete to represent Cabo Verde for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Games. "That was a huge honor to represent my family’s home nation,” said Wesley.
He also participated in the 2021 World Olympic Duals and Training Camp in Sofia, Bulgaria. Wesley currently serves the Cabo Verde Wrestling Federation Secretary General and president of the Africa Referee Commission. Coach Wesley was nominated to the North American Indigitios Athletic Hall of Fame. He will be formally inducted into the NAIA class of 2025 this summer.
Wesley also led two Barrington standouts, Gianni DiGioia and Parker Hughes, during a wrestling training trip to Turkey and Bulgaria.
“I saw all of the history and attractions but the best part was the people we trained with daily came from all over Europe,” said Hughes. DiGioia added, “This was an experience of a lifetime!"
