Anne Hazard Aldrich, 83, Little Compton

Posted

Anne Hazard Aldrich, eldest daughter of Hulbert Stratton Aldrich and Amy Durfee Aldrich, both originally from Fall River and Tiverton, passed away on March 12 at the age of 83.

Anne grew up in New York City and attended The Brearley School, then went on to Vassar and Columbia, studying art. She later became involved in the art and museum world in New York, working at quite a few galleries, and as a docent at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

She spent her summers in Little Compton for most of her life, and loved it dearly.

Anne was always very active and was an accomplished skater, equestrian and skier, but most here will remember her for her fierce tennis game. She had a voracious intellect and read more books than most people could read in several lifetimes, many in the original language as she was fluent in Spanish and French. She would delve into subjects like art, history, music, religion and spirituality of all sorts, and particularly loved biographies.

She was herself a published author, her book, Notes From  Myself, was published in 1998, by Carroll and Graf.

She is survived by her daughter, Marina Armellini Janus,  married to Marcus, and their two daughters Olivia and Isobel; and her son, Richard Armellini, his wife Cynthia, and their sons Alexander and Benjamin. Anne is also survived by her favorite of her many canine companions on earth, her beloved dachshund, Emma, who continues to live the life of Riley with Marina and Marcus and their family.

There will be a small private family service.
