The Town of Bristol has introduced an owner-occupied tax rate in 2025 to benefit property owners who live in their homes. To qualify, the homeowner or spouse must be a registered voter in Bristol; or, if not a registered voter, present at least two forms of identification acceptable to the tax assessor/collector, including but not limited to a driver’s license, passport or car registration.

The owner or owner’s spouse must not be receiving a homestead (or similar) exemption on another property located elsewhere in Rhode Island or in any other state.

The owner of the property must physically reside in the subject property for more than six months of the year.

Tax rates for all classifications will be determined during the fiscal year 2026 budgeting process.

Applications for the owner-occupied rate must be submitted to the tax assessor’s office between January 1 and March 15; more information and applications are available online at bristolri.gov/homestead.
