Question: How will you vote on the ballot question about whether to allow retail sales of recreational cannabis in Barrington?

Braxton Medlin (D) — “I will vote yes. Regardless of my thoughts about cannabis and its use, as of May 25, 2022, Rhode Island is the 19th state to legalize recreational cannabis. The RI Cannabis Act also included automatic expungement of prior civil or criminal marijuana possession charges. Let's keep moving Barrington forward.”

Ray Clark (R) — “I have a lot of concerns with regard to a dispensary here in town. Location, hours of operation, traffic impacts, and security to name a few. However, I am inclined to accept the ballot question as it allows the town to benefit from the tax revenue that will be generated by such establishments throughout the state.”

Kate Berard (D) — “This is a tough and personal question and I have waffled; however, truth is, it’s already here and readily accessible right outside of town. If we’re smart with zoning and ban public use (including vehicles) we can find a spot in town to the financial benefit of taxpayers.”

Jarrod Ryan (R) — “I would vote NO to retail sales of cannabis in Barrington. Cannabis has proven to be the ultimate gateway drug. In honoring those who have passed due to drug abuse, addiction, and other related accidents, I would vote to deny easy access to cannabis for the future of our children.”
