Barbara Alice Martel, 55, of Warren, died Friday, December 6 at home after a long illness. Born in Newport, RI, a daughter of Ira Ramsey and the late Verdie (Kimzey) Ramsey, she was the beloved wife of Andrew Martel for 35 years. She was a nurse for many area nursing homes.

She had lived in Rhode Island since 1984, coming from Missouri. She had worked at the Rhode Island Veterans' Home in Bristol and most recently before her illness the Warren Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Warren. She was a proud founding member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Auxiliary and the Veteran of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Warren.

She was the loving mother of Charles A. Martel of Warren, Daniel J. Martel of West Greenwich and Samantha E. Martel of Tiverton; and devoted grandmother to Aidan Martel, Ava E. Cavara, Emily Martel, Erika Martel and Mark Martel. She also leaves two sisters, Amanda Gerling and Renee Austin. She was considered a daughter by her mother-in-law Eloise Martel.

Arrangements are with Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI, where family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019 from 4 to 7 pm. The funeral service in the funeral home will begin at 7 pm. Burial will be private.
