The Barrington Little League Majors 11U All Star baseball team opened the District 2 tournament with an 11-1 victory over Portsmouth at Sherwood Field on Sunday, June 23. 

Andrew Knychalski pitched a one-hitter for Barrington. He struck out seven batters over four innings. 

Matthew Montecalvo had three hits for Barrington and drove in four runs. Leo Espindle, Porter Campo, Lochlan Donaghy, Zak Oppler, Derek Rondinelli and Knychalski also had hits for Barrington. 

Barrington will play next against Bristol/Warren on Tuesday, June 25, at 5:45 p.m. at Jannitto Field in Warren.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
