The Barrington High School boys and girls indoor track teams finished in fourth and eighth place, respectively, at the state track championships over the weekend.

Boys championship

The Eagles had two state runners-up at the championship meet. Will Sanchez set a new school record in the indoor long jump and finished second overall at the meet, with a top distance of 21 feet, 8 inches.

Meanwhile, the Eagles’ 4x200-meter relay team of Nico Arce, Aaron Brady, Andrew Blazewicz and Sanchez cruised to a second place finish, with a time of 1:36.62.

“The team was seeded 5th in the meet, but broke their own season's best by two seconds to place as State Runners-Up,” wrote Barrington Coach Bill Barrass, who also praised the performances by Sanchez in the long jump, 4x200, and 4x400 relay.

Jackson Duffy sprinted to a third place finish in the 55-meter hurdles, and Asher Robbins finished fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 67 feet, 1 inch.

Arce, Blazewicz, Sanchez and Holden Vaughan teamed up in the 4x400-meter relay and finished fourth overall. Thomas McAdams scored some points for the Barrington team, tying for sixth place in the high jump.

“This has been a great season for us, despite what is happening in the world,” wrote Coach Barrass. “We had 78 athletes come out for our team this year — almost double our normal roster — and I am so thankful that the Interscholastic League and our school district allowed this season to happen. This season has given many kids around the state a much-needed positive experience, in an organized and safe way. The fact that our team had so much success this year, as well, has made this season something for us all to be very proud of. This is a season we won't forget!”

Girls championship

Barrington finished the state championship meet with 21 teams, which was strong enough for eighth place.

The top individual competitor was Tess Gagliano, who ran to a third place finish in the 300-meter race. She finished with a time of 43. 44.

Lindsay Turgeon finished sixth in the 1,000-meter race, following closely by her teammate, Kyle Keough, in seventh.

The Eagles’ relay teams performed well at the state track finals, as the 4x200 and 4x800 each finished third, and the 4x400 finished fifth. The 4x200-meter relay team featured Courtney Brady, Tess Gagliano, Violet Gagliano and Sophia Ford, and finished with a time of 1:52.25. Riley Curran, Keogh, Olivia Johnson and Turgeon teamed up in the 4x800 and finished third with a time of 10:08.72.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Louise Choi-Schattle, Violet Gagliano, Tess Gagliano and Meghan Zitzmann clocked a fifth place time of 4:22.70.
