Eagles outscore Purple, Wizards and the rest of the field

The Barrington High School girls indoor track team was expected to score about 80 points in the Class B Championship meet. But when the dust cleared after the meet on Saturday, the Eagles had scored 122 points and won the championship.

Barrington finished ahead of second-place Classical, which scored 115 points, and third-place West Warwick, which finished with 86 points.

The Eagles’ 4x800-meter relay team of Ginevra Girardello, Ella Reagan, Faith Barrass  and Maeve Kelly got Barrington off to a great start by winning the event.

Helena Hyde won the high jump and tied her own school record by clearing five feet, four inches. Allie Ford also jumped well, clearing four feet, eight inches and finished sixth. Hyde and Ford also scored points in the long jump — Hyde finished sixth and Ford finished seventh.

Barrington dominated the 3,000-meter race. Mia He finished second, Sophie Halloran was third, Estelle Mentzer finished fourth, Leyla Bac was fifth and Claire Collins placed sixth. The Eagles were on pace to score even more points in the 3,000, but a runner was disqualified due to a uniform rule that Barrington coaches said was improperly enforced.

“This cost us two points but we overcame the setback,” wrote a coach.

Sara Chang continued to run well — she finished second in the 1,500-meter race. Kelly and Barrass, running their second event of the day, also impressed. Kelly finished fourth overall, and Barrass was fifth.

The Eagles scored points in the 4x200-meter relay when the team of Roxana Mohammadi, Charlotte Farrell, Emma Pearse and Kate Pearse finished fourth.

Indie Lamb ran a smart race in the 600-meters and finished second overall. Caroline Reznik finished fourth in the same event, and Girardello, Reagan and Lily Filippo placed sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.

Natalie Antonio had a personal best throw in the weight throw and finished in seventh, and Kitty Wang finished eighth in the shot put.

Evelyn Lefort ran a strong race in the 1,000-meters and finished third. Chang was fourth, Kelly was sixth, and Barrass was seventh.

In the 4x400-meter relay event, Barrington’s team of Lamb, Reznik, Emma Pearse and Kate Pearse ran a determined race to place second and secure the Class B Championship.
