Members of the Barrington Park and Recreation Commission are meeting tonight, Thursday, March 24, and are expected to discuss the Barrington Middle School basketball courts and recent problems with trash piling up on the courts.
Last week, an official from the department of public works confirmed that the courts were locked Friday afternoon because of trash. He said there is a policy requiring the courts be kept clean — if there is trash left at the courts, the town will lock the doors. There are also signs posted around the courts at the middle school.
It is expected that Commission members will discuss the idea of locking the basketball courts at a certain time each night in an effort to reduce the trash being left on the courts. (Officials have a similar approach for the town beach — police officers stop by nightly to lock the gates to the parking lot.)
The Commission meeting will be held at the Peck Center for Adult Enrichment (Barrington Senior Center) at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held in-person; there is no link for remote access on the meeting’s posted agenda.
Summer concert question
Should Barrington’s summer concert series stay put at Latham Park, should officials move the concerts back to the town beach, or is there another location in town that would serve as a better backdrop for the concerts?
Members of the Barrington Park and Recreation Commission will be discussing this topic during their meeting tonight, and they’re hoping residents stop by and share their input.
The town’s summer concerts have been held in a few different locations in town, but mainly at the town beach and Latham Park. The shows are open to the public, and free.
Also included on tonight’s Park and Recreation Commission meeting agenda is a playground inspection update, a DPW staffing statement update, and a litter ordinance update.
