Barrington Police are investigating a suspicious email received by the superintendent of schools on Friday, Jan. 3. 

Police said the email was sent by a 37-year-old homeless man who has previously left suspicious notes at a local school and at a Barrington church. 

Police said the email was addressed to Barrington Schools Superintendent Rob Wargo, and also to former US President Barack Obama and the New York City mayor. 

Police are tying to locate the homeless man — officials are trying to issue him a no trespass order. Police said the department’s intent is to try to get the man some help. Police said there are no concerns of any imminent actions by the individual. Police said the man may have a prior arrest record in New York City.

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, Wargo issued a statement regarding the email.  

“Last week, disruptive emails were sent to some members of our BPS staff, including myself. Barrington Public Schools is currently collaborating with the Barrington Police Department (BPD) to address concerns regarding these communications. BPD authorities are assessing the situation to determine the appropriate course of action,” Wargo wrote. “The safety and well-being of all members of our community are always our top priorities, which is why we are collaborating with BPD. Please be assured that there is no threat to any staff, student, or community member at this time.”
