The Barrington Town Council recently approved the purchase of eight equipment carts for a total cost of $19,150.
At the September Council meeting, Barrington Town Clerk Merrie DeSisto explained the bid request. DeSisto said the Rhode Island Board of Elections conducted an assessment and told Barrington officials that they wanted to see the town do a better job securely storing the election polling equipment. She said the town receives polling equipment from the state.
The equipment is kept inside Barrington Public Schools, which serve as polling locations. The polling equipment storage carts would allow the town to lock up the equipment on the carts, keeping it more secure, DeSisto said.
DeSisto requested the purchase of eight carts. The Clerk’s office recently received a grant from the RI Office of the Secretary of State for $23,172. DeSisto said the equipment purchase would not require any local funds.
Two companies submitted bids for the storage carts. Officials said one of the bids did not meet the minimum requirements.
Council members voted 5-0 to approve the bid from Print Elect of New Bern, NC.
