A handful of Barrington residents competed at the NSAF Outdoor Nationals, held at the University of Oregon recently.

John Fay, a Barrington resident and senior at Bishop Hendricken, won the hammer throw. Fay had the top distance of 236 feet, 10 inches at the competition; it was a new personal record for Fay and one inch better than the second place finisher.

Fay topped fellow Rhode Islanders and Woonsocket standouts Tarik Robinson-O’Hagan and Logan Coles, who finished in second and third place, respectively. The national title marked a fantastic run for Fay, who earlier won the 2021 Rhode Island Indoor Track and Field Championship and the 2021 Rhode Island Outdoor Track and Field Championship. 

Barrington’s Asher Robbins just missed a spot on the podium — he finished seventh overall at the NSAF Outdoor Nationals with a top throw of 206 feet, 2 inches. He finished the competition with four straight throws of 200-plus feet. 

Robbins’s teammate from Barrington High School, Liam Capozza, finished 14th overall with a top distance of 188 feet, 4 inches. 

Two members of the Barrington High School girls track team also competed at the NSAF Outdoor Nationals in Oregon. MacKenzie Stephens finished 11th with a top throw of 151 feet, 10 inches, while Meg Coyne was 18th with a distance of 145 feet, 2 inches.
