Barrington’s JV teams win track state championships

Two relay teams pace boys team to victory; girls score points in 14 events

The Barrington High School junior varsity boys and girls track teams won their respective Rhode Island JV Track State Championships recently. 

The BHS boys team scored 75 points, finishing ahead of second-place Rogers High School (58 points) and the rest of the field. The Barrington High School girls team scored points in 14 of the 19 events and outpaced the competition. 

Ginevera Girardello cut six seconds off her personal best time and won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:26.86. 

Athena Gao clocked her fastest time of the year and tied for second place in the 100-meter hurdles. 

The BHS 4x800-meter relay team of Maeve Kelly, Scarlette Wasinowicz, Shelby Gasbarro and Mia He powered to a second place finish. 

Natalie Antonio saved her best throw of the year for the JV State Championships, recording a distance of 93 feet, seven inches, which was strong enough for third place. Allen Kelly finished third in the hammer throw. 

Siena Leland cleared the bar at eight feet and finished third in the pole vault. 

Boys win

The Barrington High School boys JV track team celebrated three meet champions. Neal Bansal won the 3,000-meter race, while Xavier Barako, Beckett Capizzo, Max Thimme, and Nick Valdez teamed up to win the 4x400-meter relay. Bansal partnered with Vlad Horvatic, Rowan Knight, and Sam Spencer to win the 4x800-meter race. 

Connor Curran finished third in the 1,500-meter race, Spencer was third in the 3,000, and the 4x100-meter relay team of Stephan Jaquet, Owen Lievense, Thimme, and Kevin Zhang was third in that event. 

Levi Robbins powered to a fourth place finish in the shot put, while Kevin Igoe was fifth in the discus and Austin McCarthy was fifth in the 800-meter race. 

Jake Tomlinson finished sixth in the long jump. Adam Izzi was sixth in the shot put. Capizzo powered to a seventh place finish in the 400-meter race. Horvatic was seventh in the 1,500, and Vassilios Makris finished seventh on the 110-meter hurdles. Veer Rege was eighth in the 110-meter hurdles.
