Beatrix Potter Lecture By Betsy Bray

Posted

Join us for a fascinating virtual event with Betsy Bray as she takes us on a journey through the life and legacy of Beatrix Potter. Raised in mid-Victorian London by wealthy parents, Potter defied societal norms by becoming a successful writer and illustrator of children's books, achieving financial independence and owning property, and preserving substantial tracts of land in the English Lake District. As a member of the Beatrix Potter Society and an expert on Potter's life, Bray will share captivating photos and illustrations that bring Potter's story to life, covering her personal and family life, artistic developments, love of nature, and legacy as a conservationist. This 45-minute talk is geared towards adults and will be followed by a question and answer period. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about the life and work of a woman ahead of her time.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
