The Barrington High School boys lacrosse team celebrated wins over Hendricken and Portsmouth last week.

On Tuesday, April 18, Barrington High School sophomore Colin Hope returned after five games out with an injury to lead the team with four goals and two assists in a 13-7 win over Bishop Hendricken. 

Nick Spaight added three goals and an assist of his own, while Chase Squires and Felix Zeller each had a pair of goals. After a slow start on the defensive end, the group locked things down and only allowed two goals in the second half. Ryan Valentine recorded 14 saves.

In front of a good crowd at its first game of the season on Victory Field, Barrington rolled to a 15-3 win over Portsmouth. Max LaRoche led the team in scoring with four goals. Six other players combined for the remainder of the goals, and 11 of the 15 tallies were assisted. 

The defense had its best game of the season with strong play from the core line of Marshall Moore, Puck Arnone and Nolan Gaus. Chase Squires was a perfect 21 of 21 at the face-off X.

Baseball

Ben Nowinski pitched a complete game against Westerly, as the Eagles secured a 3-1 victory on Saturday morning, April 22. Nowinski, a junior, threw 100 pitches in the win. Barrington improved to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the division. In fact, after a 0-3 start in league play, the Eagles are now in first place in Division II-B.

Harrison Cooley pitched Barrington to an 8-5 win over Ponaganset on Wednesday, April 20. 

Barrington defeated Woonsocket on Tuesday, April 25, and will play at Burrillville on Thursday. The Eagles will host Chariho on Saturday morning. 

Softball

The Eagles fell to 1-3 in Division II standings after losing to West Warwick 13-8 on Wednesday, April 19, and 11-0 to Portsmouth on Thursday, April 20. Barrington was scheduled to play at Middletown on Tuesday, April 25, and at home against East Greenwich on Thursday. 

Girls track

The Eagles improved to 7-0 with dual meet wins over Shea, Tiverton and Tolman on Monday, April 24. Barrington won 17 out of the 18 events. 

Freshman Helena Hyde cleared 4 feet 10 inches in the high jump. This was part of a freshmen sweep that took, Isabella Calderone finished second and Allie Ford was third. 

Jordan Roskiewicz won both hurdles races and the triple jump.

Isys Dunphy tied for 1st in the 100-meter race, ran on the winning 4x100-meter relay (along with Roxana Mohammadi, Maddie Gill and Helena Defanti) and won the 200 meter race. 

Sophia Ford won the long jump at 17 feet and tied for 1st in the 100-meter.

Eva Garofano won the shot put and discus, and Sara Chang won the 800-meter by 13.5 seconds after placing second in the 1,500-meter. Olivia Johnson won the 400 meter. Indie Lamb won the 1,500-meter. Barrington’s 4x400-meter relay team of Olivia Johnson, Indie Lamb, Caroline Reznik and Kyle Keough captured first place.

Other first place finishers included Virginia Sanderson (3,000), Lily Cregan (hammer) and Ellie Noonan (pole vault).

Boys track

Barrington High School dominated a regular season meet against Shea (147-7), Tiverton (147-7) and Tolman (139-15) on Monday. 

Barrington swept the top three spots in a number of events, including 3,000-meter race, 1,500, javelin, high jump, 110-hurdles, hammer, discus, long jump, and pole vault.

Barrington’s first place finishers: Myles Napolitano (3,000, 800), Brandon Piedade (1,500), Ethan Knight (300 hurdles, 110 hurdles), Chucky Potter (javelin, high jump), Michael Fay (hammer, discus), Pierce Wilkerson (long jump, triple jump), Iain DeBoth (100, 200), Ben LeBreche (400), Dan Lemos (shot put), and Ryan Martin (pole vault).

Barrington also won two relay events. Henry Stockwell, Piedade, Bonard and Knight won the 4x400, while Chucky Potter, Alex McClelland, Charly Potter and DeBoth won the 4x100.
