EAST PROVIDENCE — The body of a city man reported missing for over a month washed ashore at the East Providence waterfront Tuesday morning, April 6.
Dennis Lonardo Sr., who was the reported missing on March 5, was identified as the deceased by a family member after he was discovered by pedestrian using the East Bay Bike Path just south of the Squantum Club at the water’s edge.
At about 10 a.m. April 6, East Providence Police officers were called to the scene. Upon their arrival and that of detectives, officers were able to descend down to the shoreline and view the body.
A visible tattoo on the left upper arm was similar to that of Mr. Lonardo, who was reported missing after falling into the water at the East Providence Yacht Club on or about March 5. An extensive search for Mr. Lonardo over the ensuing days turned up negative at that time.
An investigator from the Rhode Island Medical Examiner’s office responded to the scene and removed the body from the shoreline. The cause of death is still under investigation RIME office.
