The Tiverton girls basketball team crushed Cumberland 58-28 in a Division II home game on Wednesday night. The Tigers also beat West Warwick 40-34 on Monday for two in a row and improve their record to 7-4.
Forwards Jah’niece Branch and Jenna Del Deo combined for 29 points to lead Tiverton in the victory. Branch, a junior, scored 18 points and was consistent, scoring in all four quarters.
"Jah'niece is very strong on the post," said Tigers head coach Mike Brigham. "Her teammates move the ball very well,  penetrate and dish the ball, so she gets a lot of bunnies."
Del Deo, a senior forward, netted 11 points, all coming in the first three quarters. Tiverton started quick and sustained their lead throughout three quarters, before taking their foot off the gas in the fourth. The Tigers led 17-4 after the first quarter, 34-12 at halftime and 50-23 after the third quarter.
The Tigers also dropped bombs from 3-point-land as well. Sophomore guard Cami Oliveira drained three 3-pointers for 9 of her 11 points. Sara Poland and Tori Murray also added threes during the onslaught.
Tiverton is a game out of third place in D-2 with nine games to play and look poised to make the playoffs.
"We have a very good team basketball philosophy going right now." said Coach Brigham. "We preach tough, physical defense and it is starting to show."
