Bryan Hoffman is hoping there is a big turnout for this year’s New Year’s Day Dip in the Bay in Barrington.
The third annual event, sponsored by the Barrington Business and Community Association, raises money for two local organizations — Tap-In (Touch A Person In Need) and the Barrington Lions Club. Donations for the New Year’s Day Dip in the Bay are split 50-50 between the two groups.
“We’re only at about $2,600 which in years past made me completely panicked but everyone waits until the last minute,” wrote Hoffman in an email to the Barrington Times on Monday, Dec. 30. Hoffman plays a key role with the Barrington Business and Community Association. “I’d really like to hit $10K so hopefully we have a big two days.”
The BBCA New Year’s Day Dip in the Bay takes place at Barrington Beach — brave swimmers will run into the water at noon. Barrington Recreation Department Director Jean Bellm is expected to use a megaphone to do the countdown for this year’s plunge.
In previous years, New Year’s Day swimmers in Barrington have been met with cold weather, but this year’s forecast is calling for the air temperature to be about 50 degrees and water temps hovering around 46 or 47.
