The local VFW building on Hope Street has a brand new roof. According to VFW Commander Karl Antonevich, it was decided to remodel the old roof, courtesy of Kevin Sousa of Quality Construction & Roofing Co. Inc.
This project was nothing new for Sousa and his crew, who have refurbished a number of buildings and landmarks in and around the area at a most reasonable cost. Not long ago, Sousa’s workers remodeled the Town Common Gazebo roof at no cost to the town.
“The VFW roof was made anew by Kevin Sousa of Quality Roofing at a very affordable price,” said Commander Antonevich. “This is the second time he has helped us to maintain a great piece of Bristol. Some of our members have two generations on our roster, and I will have three. He and Bristol Marine are part of local companies that will help our great organization.”
Sousa’s crew began ripping old shingles and the like off the VFW roof early Saturday morning, and finished up later in the day on Sunday. It had been a number of years since this structure has had this type of remodeling to its exterior. Needless to say, all parties were delighted with the outcome.
Said Sousa, “My workers are getting paid from the VFW, who paid for materials and removal, and got a discount through my supplier, ABC Supply. I would also like to recognize district manager of ABC Supply, Tom Zimmerman; Fall River branch manager, Big Joe Ganhadeiro; and branch manager Val Carvalho of Providence.”
Taking it a step further, it’s people like Kevin Sousa who has found it most gratifying to restore some of this town’s most treasured structures.
“I love this town and everything it stands for,” said Sousa. “This is just a small way for me to pitch in and do whatever I can to make it happen.”
