EAST PROVIDENCE — The East Providence High School football team showed some signs of life offensively late, but it wasn’t nearly enough for the host Townies as they dropped a 35-13 decision to Burrillville Friday night, Oct. 8, in a Division I contest at the new stadium.
The visiting Broncos opened up a 14-0 lead by halftime then doubled that output early in the third quarter and added another touchdown for good measure as the period drew near a close to build a commanding 35-0 advantage.
East Providence was able to reach the endzone twice before the final whistle.
Late in the third period, Joel Arias set up one of the Townie touchdowns with a 55-yard run. Steve Clark capped off the drive with the scoring rush.
And following a short Burrillville punt early in the fourth, which gave E.P. the ball at the Broncos’ 30, Lucas Santa Cruz finished off the series with a carry to touch for the hosts.
Burrillville improved to 2-2 in the league standings with the win. East Providence fell to 0-3.
The Townies are back in action Friday night, Oct. 15, when they travel to Cumberland for a league outing against the 1-2 Clippers. Cumberland dropped a D-I contest to North Kingstown, 21-14, last week. Kickoff for the Townies and Clippers is 7 p.m. at Cumberland’s Tucker Field.
