If I didn’t have a child, I’d be in Peru right now. Why Peru? I say, why not? I mean, I’ve never been, for one. I heard one of the Seven Wonders is there, so that sounds pretty cool. And it’s up in the mountains, which sounds like a bit of a challenge to me — and if there’s one thing I love, it’s a challenge.
Of course, I’ve never been to Florida either — unless you count that one time I packed my car with all my possessions, intending to relocate there, only to turn around the second I hit South Carolina. That story is for another time, though. Florida would be a change (if I did move there), but it doesn’t sound like enough of a challenge for me.
I tend to challenge myself in everything I do, or I simply get bored. One way I’ve been challenging myself as the editor of the Life section is by creating new (and unique) projects to work on each week. I’m working on a few at the moment that I hope brings some usefulness and entertainment to everyone who reads the Life section of the paper. Stay tuned …
This week, I was honored to share Madison’s story — her challenges with many rare diagnoses and her triumph in creating The Silly Lily Foundation to make a meaningful impact on the lives of kids who also suffer from illnesses. She has been very resourceful in finding ways to navigate some harrowing challenges in order to keep pursuing her dream of helping children. Please, read her story!
I also found it interesting to learn how challenging it can be to bring art to a public space — specifically, Warren Town Hall. It was a rather long process from the conception of the idea to opening day, which was Friday, March 21.
Readers of the life section have sent me story after story of their own challenges and what they’re doing to overcome them. So, there will be a few more features in the near future highlighting some unique solutions to problems people are facing in the East Bay. What are some challenges you’ve faced and overcome? Feel free to send your stories!
In the meantime, I need a new adventure outside of work that challenges me, so I think I’ll begin planning my next vacation — to Peru. Because why not?
