Barrington is looking for volunteers to help “Keep Rhode Island Litter Free” on Monday, April 21. Residents can get some exercise and fresh air while helping clean up downtown Barrington and East Bay Bike Path.

Volunteers will meet in front of Barrington Town Hall, with on-site registration opening at 5 p.m. Starting at around 5:30 p.m., volunteers will walk in groups along assigned routes and pick up trash along the way, returning to Town Hall around 7 p.m.

Gloves, trash bags, and grabbers will be provided. The first 25 participants will receive a free T-shirt.

Anyone interested can stop by Barrington Town Hall at 5 p.m. on April 21. Volunteers are also encouraged to go online — https://litterfree.ri.gov/take-pledge — and sign the litter-free pledge.

Team leaders will record and photograph the amount of material collected and submit recordings to the town manager’s office.

Arbor Day

The Barrington Garden Club will recognize Arbor Day with a tree dedication event on Monday, April 28 at 10 a.m. at the new resilience garden at Barrington Government Center. The public is invited to attend.

A native tree was originally planted in the fall with the completion of the resilience garden. The Barrington Garden Club also planted a White Oak, a Tupelo, and an American Fringe in Police Cove Park.
