The Barrington High School boys tennis team stands atop the Division I standings at 7-1.

The Eagles knocked off Cumberland and Mount St. Charles last week — capturing each match by a 7-0 score. On Monday, April 24, the Eagles defeated Lincoln 6-1.

Barrington High School Coach Story Salit said he has been pleased with his team’s focus and was particularly happy with the Eagles’ effort against Mount St. Charles.

“They’re a decent team,” Salit said of the Mounties. “They were undefeated in Division II last year. We had a complete performance.”

Salit said his doubles teams played well, led by the number one doubles team of Bryce Kupperman and Gabe Anderson. The third doubles team of Garrett Meehan and Zach Spear also played well.

“They showed they could win in different ways,” Salit said. “They were getting it done at the net, changing up their shots. A lot of third doubles, you don’t see a lot of versatility.”

The Eagles coach said sophomore Luke Sapolsky continues to play well at number one singles.

“Luke is a very cool, collected kid out there,” Salit said. “He won’t get rattled.

“I don’t know if his approach is all that different from match to match. It’s always business as usual with him.”

Salit said his team works hard in matches and during practice.

“Every day they’re almost fighting for their spots,” Salit said of his team. “It’s so tight on our ladder. Sometimes practice is the most competitive thing for us. I like that some of them aren’t satisfied with where they’re at.”

Barrington is scheduled to play at Smithfield on Monday, May 1.
