The bats came alive for the Barrington High School softball team in a 13-1 victory over Davies on Friday afternoon, March 28.
Ruby Ciummo belted a three-run home run to lead the charge for the 1-0 Eagles, while Arianna Renzi went 3-for-3, scored three runs, and drove in a run.
Barrington High School freshman Grace Fontaine went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs, and senior Kendall Fisher also went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs.
Fisher was also stellar on the mound. The Eagles’ pitcher allowed just two hits through the four-and-a-half innings of play.
Barrington High School Coach Sandy Gorham said Fisher showed impressive control all game long.
“She put the ball just where she wanted to,” Gorham said, adding that Fisher’s pitch placement was key in limiting the Davies’ hitters’ chances to make any hard contact.
Gorham also praised the Eagles’ catcher, Maya Etheridge.
“She’s not a good catcher. She’s an outstanding catcher,” he said. Gorham said Etheridge is a very strong defensive player and also a powerful hitter in the line-up.
Cora Floriani, a freshman, fills the shortstop position for the Eagles.
“She’s an outstanding player,” Gorham said. “Very strong arm and she understands the game.”
Aislinn McCoy is in centerfield, and Alyssa Conaty is at second. Gorham said Ciummo is doing a great job at first.
“Our defense is better all around,” he said.
The Eagles are scheduled to host Toll Gate on Wednesday, April 2, and will play against Cranston East on Friday.
