Andy Fletcher and Matt Davis combine for shut-out victory

The Barrington High School baseball team evened its record to 1-1 after defeating Central High School in the second game of the home-and-away series. The Eagles took an early lead and rolled to a 5-0 victory.

“That was kind of a big win,” said Barrington High School Coach Vin Scandura. “First win in D-I.”

Barrington built an early lead against the Knights. Gabe Tanous hit a single and Quinn Murphy crushed a double off the outfield fence. The Eagles’ 2-0 lead later grew to 4-0, and finally to 5-0. Andrew LaPointe had three hits in the victory while Matt Davis and Murphy finished with two hits each.

Meanwhile, Andy Fletcher was solid on the mound. The senior pitcher tossed a shutout for five and two-thirds innings.

“He was fantastic,” Scandura said of Fletcher.

Matt Davis came in to close out the game for Barrington.

Scandura said Barrington’s defense was impressive throughout the game; he praised the play of Tanous at shortstop, Harrison Cooley at second base, and Davis at third.

“We’re an elite defense,” the coach added.

Barrington will play against East Providence at Pierce Field on Monday at 4:15 p.m.
