The Barrington High School girls soccer team knocked off top-ranked Chariho, 2-0, on Monday night, Sept. 23, at Victory Field.
The win improved the Eagles’ record to 3-2-3.
Barrington started out strong against the Chargers and took a 1-0 lead six minutes into the contest when Liv Morrissette put the ball into the Chariho goal.
“We controlled the game for the next 15 minutes, but Chariho worked their way back into the game putting pressure on us going into halftime,” said Barrington Coach Martyn Hollands. “We knew they would come out strong in the second half and we were under pressure again but defending well.”
Eight minutes into the second half, referees whistled BHS Captain Stela Uddin-Alves for a red card, leaving the Eagles down a player for the final 32 minutes of the game.
“The whole team defended resolutely and still created opportunities to score on the counter-attack,” Hollands said, “and were rewarded for this effort when Bailey Duncan scored with 17 minutes to go.”
The Eagles dug deep to hold off the Chargers as time ran out. Hollands said the entire team played well against Chariho.
The victory followed a 3-3 tie against South Kingstown last week. Barrington tied South Kingstown 3-3 last week. The Rebels took a 2-0 lead, but Morrissette scored to cut the lead in half and Ellie Donato’s goal in the second half evened the scored at 2-2.
South Kingstown recaptured the lead at the 56-minute mark, but Duncan scored 11 minutes later, forcing the 3-3 tie. Hollands said Ava Caldarone played well defensively for the Eagles.
