EAST PROVIDENCE — First round leader Bryce Lewis, of Hendersonville, Tenn., carded an even par of 69 over Wannamoisett Country Club Thursday, June 24, holding on to a two-stroke lead at the mid-way mark of the 59th Annual Northeast Amateur Invitational in city.

Lewis fired a six-under, 63 during Round 1 the previous day to eventually set the pace at 132 total. He’ll enter Round 3 Friday two ahead of Pepperdine’s Dylan Menante, who carded a three-under 66 Thursday off a 68 in the opening round to sit at 134.

Two golfers are tied for third three strokes back (135), Hunter Wolcott, of Burns, Tenn., and Kelly Chinn, of Great Falls, Va.

The day’s largest gallery, as it was during Round 1 and should remain so the rest of the tournament, followed local favorite Davis Chatfield, a North Attleboro resident, a standout on the University of Notre Dame’s men’s golf team and a Wannamoisett member. Chatfield enters Round 3 in a share of eighth place (137), just five strokes off the pace after shooting 68 and 69 the first two days.

Chatfield tees off at 1:38 p.m. Friday with Ben Smith of Novi, Mich. The lead group, Lewis and Menante, are the final twosome to take the course in Round 3 at 2:10 p.m.
