NEWPORT/EAST PROVIDENCE — The Rogers/East Providence High School co-operative gymnastics team had a busy and productive few days last weekend, going 2-1 in back-to-back regular season quad meets held Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 22 and 23.

At Strive Gymnastics in Somerset, Rogers/East Providence defeated host Mt. Hope as well as Middletown but lost Portsmouth in a meet held Saturday, Jan. 22.

Portsmouth was tops overall with a team score of 128.85. The locals tallied a team total of 127.75, bettering Mt. Hope’s 127.1 and Middletown’s 125.75.

Katy Serth paced R/EP with a 33.65 all-around total after receiving an 8.4 on vault, a 7.6 on bars, a 9.05 on beam and an 8.6 on floor.

Mackenzie Botelho was next all-around score of 21.5 off an 8.3 on vault, a 7.15 on bars, a 7.3 on beam and an 8.75 on floor.

Haley Massa added a 30.95 all-around off an 8.4 on vault, a 6.6 on vars, a 7.55 on beam and an 8.4 on floor.

Hailey Kaiser was the fourth local to record a 30-plus all-around score with a 30.95 off an 8.4 on vault, a 6.6 on bars, a 7.55 on beam and an 8.4 on floor.

At home the following afternoon, January 23, at the Newport YMCA, the locals tallied a 128.85 which again bested Middletown (121.9) and Barrington (128.65), but still not enough to get past Portsmouth. The Patriots swept the overall meet with a score of 131.65.

Massa was tops for R/EP all-around with a 32.55 off an 8.5 on vault, a 6.95 on bars, an 8.55 on beam and an 8.45 on floor.

Serth and Kaiser each finished with an all-around of 32.15. Kaiser went 8.5 on vault, 7.15 on bars, 8.4 on beam and 8.1 on floor. Serth went 8.64 on vault, 7.5 on bars, 7.85 on beam and 8.15 on floor.

Botelho scored a 32 even off an 8.4 on vault, a 7.2 on bars, a 7.9 on beam and an 8.5 on floor. Makena Petsch also competed all-around for the locals, compiling an 25.9 with a best of 8.5 on vault.

A number Rogers/East Providence gymnasts posted qualifying scores for the upcoming state individual meet, including Kaiser (beam and vault), Massa (all-around), Botelho (floor and vault) and Serth (all-around).
