Local community, military and political dignitaries gathered Monday, May 26, for the Town of Warren's 157th annual Memorial Day remembrance ceremony and honor parade beginning at the Town Common and later traversing Main Street.

Events actually began the morning prior, Sunday, May 25, with another traditional ceremony at the Vietnam Memorial Marker located on the quadrant at Market Street and Kickemuit Road on Route 136 where the late Private First Class Roland C. Larivee was recognized for his service.

On Monday, the schedule of events began when Naval Honors are rendered on the Town Wharf for all veterans of the branch. Next, were Military Honors and a speaking program honoring all service veterans the common and Honor Roll memorial. The days' ceremonies concluded with a parade, including a performance by the Mt. Hope High School Marching Band.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
