Posted

On Thursday, Aug. 15, 17 art spaces throughout Providence will open their doors to the public. Gallery Night Providence will offer five free guided tours of Providence art spaces, with galleries also welcoming individual visitors that evening free of charge.

Three tours (5, 5:45, and 6 p.m.) depart from the Graduate Hotel on Dorrance Street. The 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. tour will depart from the WaterFire Arts Center (WFAC) on Valley Street. The 5:45 pm tour is a walking tour with all other tours conducted via mini coach or trolley.

The Providence Art Club, a stop on the 5 p.m. tour, is a participating gallery this month. It is presenting two exhibitions: Homage to the Square: An Exhibition of 16” x 16” Artworks, featuring 40+ Exhibiting Artist Members of the Art Club, and in the Dodge House Gallery, artWORKS: landscapes, featuring young artists affiliated with Riverzedge Arts of Woonsocket.

Each of the tours leaving from and returning to the WaterFire Arts Center will feature guest guides joining regular Gallery Night guides.  Kristen Adamo, president and CEO of the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau (PWCVB) teams up with Gallery Night guide Danielle Wolfrum for the 5:30 tour, and Mr.Joel Rosario Tapia / Casike Tureygua Taino Cay, an activist, artist, and cultural practitioner, joins Gallery Night guide Emily Gray for the 6:30 tour.

On view at the WaterFire Arts Center is NetWorks Rhode Island and the Chazan Collection: A Half-Century of RI Patronage, a large-scale exhibition featuring more than 100 NetWorks RI artists. This exhibition celebrates a dynamic community of innovative artists living and working in Rhode Island and their champion, the late Joseph A. Chazan M.D.

TroopTop Thursdays will take place on the roof of WFAC from 5 to 9 pm with music by Beth Killian, Snacks by UNFI Café, and a portion of drink proceeds benefiting Gallery Night Providence.

The full schedule for August 15, with details on how to participate in tours or to visit on one’s own can be found on Gallery Night Providence's website.
