George J. Seyez Jr., 83, of Bristol

George J. Seyez Jr., 83, of Bristol, R.I., passed away, Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of Joan M. (Lawrence) Seyez.

Born in Fall River, Mass., he was the son of the late George J. and Eliza (Usher) Seyez.

George had worked as a Bristol Police Officer for 22 years, retiring as Sergeant in 1987. He was also the owner and operator of George Seyez Plastering in Bristol, R.I., for many years.

He was a Communicant of St. Mary of the Bay Church, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered at the food pantry. Mr. Seyez was one of the first canine handlers for the Bristol Police Department and President of the Blue Knights Association. He was also a life member of the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department, with 55 years of service with the Defiance Hose Company.  He was also a life member and served as the Captain of the Bristol Fire Police.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and wintering in Florida, was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking for all the holidays. He graduated from Salve Regina with a B.S. in Criminal Justice.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, George J. Seyez III, twin daughters, Mary Beth Olsen (John) and Lisa A. Marshall (Gary), all of Bristol, R.I. He is also survived by five grandchildren, David Squillante (Doran Smith), Gary Marshall, Gregory Marshall (Monica), Bethany Marshall (Adam Powell), and Alyssa Montgomery (Bobby); one great-granddaughter, Ella Montgomery; a sister, Barbara Coen (Michael) of Naples, Fla.; sister-in-law Marge Seyez, and brother-in-law Watson Lunt. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary E. Lunt, and his brother, Don Seyez.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, from 4 to 7 p.m., at Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, at 9 a.m. from Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren, R.I.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bristol Fire and Rescue Department, 4 Annawamscutt Drive, Bristol, RI, 02809, or to St. Mary of the Bay Church, 645 Main St., Warren, RI 02885.
