Great start for Townies baseball team

East Providence wins three straight to start the season

The East Providence baseball team has won three straight to start their regular season in Division 1. The Townies have combined timely hitting and solid pitching in beating pilgrim 2-1 on April 1,  Portsmouth 7-6 on April 3 and Narragansett 2-0 on April 4.
The Townies will host South Kingstown on Thursday, April 10, at 4:30 p.m. and  Toll Gate on Friday April 11, at 5:30 p.m.

Home opener vs Portsmouth
The Townies smashed 12 hits in a 7-6 comeback victory over Portsmouth in extra innings during their home opener on Thursday afternoon.
Townies lefty clean-up hitter Max Correiro, (4 hits, 1 RBI), ripped a hit to right-center field to drive in Gavin Palumbo from third base in the bottom of the eighth inning for the walk off win.
“Max played great,” said head coach Bobby Rodericks. “It was back and forth the entire game. It could have gone either way. I give props to Portsmouth and Coach (Ryan) Long. They can hit.”
Five hitter Oliver Andrews slugged a pair of hits and knocked in 2 RBI. Palumbo, Tim Robitaille, Aidan Martins, Brian Rutkowski, Kyle DesRosiers and Jayden Healy each tallied a hit for the Townies.
Townies starter Kyle DesRosiers struck out 6 Patriots in 5 innings, yielding 7 hits, 5 runs and 3 walks. Tim Robitaille pitched well in relief, striking out 5 and giving up 2 hits and 1 run in 3 innings of work.
“Tim showed some balls coming off an injury,” said Coach Rodericks. “He threw 47 pitches to finish the game. We weren’t even sure if he’d make it an inning. But his curve and change up were on.”
