Arthur Medeiros, a United States Army veteran who served as a heavy weapons operator during the Battle of the Bulge in World War II, greeted family, friends and admirers at a gathering at the Bristol Senior Center in honor of his 105th birthday (which is actually this Saturday, May 10.) According to Senior Center Director Donna Wilson, she has received word that a contingent of bikers from the American Legion Rider Post 98 plan to ride down from New Hampshire on Saturday in Medeiros’ honor.
“I never expected this, I’m so happy to have my two daughters, my granddaughter and grandson here,” Medeiros said, pictured with granddaughter Andrea Eeckhout, who flew in from San Diego, and grandson Ryan McCaughey of New Hampshire, who accompanied his grandfather on an American Airlines honor flight to Normandy to celebrate the 80th anniversary of D-Day last June.
Medeiros still enjoys several rounds of golf every week — 18 holes. “I’m going to keep doing it as long as I can,” he said.
