Have you considered volunteering for the town? Now may be the time.

The Town of Barrington is seeking volunteers to serve on a variety of boards and commissions. There are currently vacancies on 13 different boards.

• 250th Ad Hoc Committee: Two vacancies. (This committee is tasked with planning and organizing events, activities and initiatives to honor Rhode Island’s contributions to the United States’s founding principles for the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States of America.)

• Bicycle-Pedestrian Advisory Committee: Two vacancies.

• Board of Assessment Review: Two vacancies.

• Board of Canvassers: One vacancy.

• Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee: One vacancy.

• Economic Development Commission: One vacancy.

• Housing Board of Trustees: Four vacancies.

• Open Space Committee: One vacancy. 

• Planning Board: One vacancy.

• Resilience and Energy Committee: One vacancy.

• Senior Services Advisory Board: One vacancy.

• Veterans Advisory Committee: Three vacancies. 

• Zoning Board of Review: One vacancy.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
