Though the 2024 season ended a bit controversially for the Mt. Hope High School football team as the Huskies squabbled with the Rhode Island Interscholastic League over the new playoff power ranking measure, the locals still had a fantastic fall and were appropriately recognized with several postseason accolades.

The Huskies finished with a 6-2 overall record, which under the old rules would have earned them the third seed in the playoffs. However, according to the new formula, which the district actually went to state Superior Court to contest, that record was only good enough for the fifth seed. Mt. Hope eventually lost in the quarterfinals to Rogers on the road in Newport then fell to rival Barrington Thanksgiving week to finish with a 6-4 overall record.

Regardless of the wrangling, three Mt. Hope players were selected by the league coaches for first team All-Division III: junior Preston Brodd at defensive back; classmate Ben Martel at offensive line; and senior JJ Pimental at running back.

Pimental was the locals' driving offensive force all fall, rushing for 1,364 yard for an average of 7.1 per carry and 136.4 per game. He went over the 100-yard mark in nine of Mt. Hope's 10 outings and also scored nine rushing touchdowns.

The Huskies picked for second team All-Division III included freshman running back Zach Borges, sophomore linebacker Brody Cavalieri, freshman kick returner Tyler Rhynard, sophomore receiver Nick Rogers and junior offensive lineman Quentin Smith.

Two locals were pegged for the All-D-III third team: junior linebacker Robert Annis and senior quarterback Ethan Martel.

Not only were some Huskies saluted for their efforts on the field, they also earned their way on to the All-Academic for their performance in the classroom: Preston Brodd, senior Brennan Perry, Ben Martel, Ethan Martel, senior Colin Maloney and senior Evan Rodrigues.
