The Mt. Hope High School boys' lacrosse team returned from spring break with a comfortable 12-2 victory over visiting Providence County Day School Monday afternoon, April 21, in Bristol, the Huskies staying undefeated in the early going of the Division III season at 4-0.

The locals (6-1 overall) scored three times in both the first and second quarters as they built a 6-2 lead at intermission. The Huskies then shut out the visiting Knights in the second half while building their advantage to commanding 10-2 at the end of three periods.

Ben Browne paced all-scorers with five goals for Mt. Hope to go along with two assists. Aedan Nelson also netted a pair of tallies. Jack Godbout had three helpers and a goal.

Noah Sweeney, Nathan Carpenter and Brayden Vales accounted for the other goals. Luke Kennedy and Vales had two assists each while Carpenter and Maddox Canario had one apiece.

Aidan Pereira was nearly perfect in the face-off circle for the locals, winning 16 of 18 starts. Ethan Labollita stopped nine of the 11 PCD shots he faced in the Mt. Hope net.

Mt. Hope head coach Jay Spina noted the season to date is "going pretty well," however a third of the way through their schedule the Huskies have to be fully health due to either illness of injury.

"We have yet to have our entire team together for any game this year, so we’ve been going with the next man up theory and it’s worked out well so far," Spina continued.

The Huskies were set to finish off the week with a pair of road contests Thursday, April 24, at D-III Lincoln High, and Saturday, April 26, at D-II Smithfield.

Those games, Spina added, "should give us a good idea where we stand. The kids keep getting better each day and we are starting to work some advanced technique into practices. So it really is the sky's the limit with this group and they are starting to believe it."
