The Mt. Hope High School-Barrington High Thanksgiving Day football game, the continuation of the series between Colt-Bristol High and Barrington, enters its fourth decade this fall when the Huskies host the Eagles Thursday, Nov. 28. Kickoff is 10 a.m.

Barrington got the better of the Colts in the precursor, finishing the 53-year run of the series with an overall mark of 29-22-1.

After Bristol and Warren got together in 1993 — the latter which previously played Tiverton for 23 years on the holiday — the sides initially shared dominance.

Mt. Hope, at the combined school became known, won six of the first seven Thanksgiving Day games. The Eagles, then won six in a row.

Since 2006, however, the Huskies have won just three of the last 17 games. The 2020 contest was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mt. Hope's three victories in that span were 22-6 in 2006, 35-0 in 2015 and 20-19 in 2016.

Barrington enters the 2024 outing on a six-game winning streak. The Eagles previously won a half-dozen in a row from 2000-2005. They also own the record run of wins in the series, eight, between 2007-2014.

The following is a recap of the last five games in the series:

2023: Barrington, 36-7
The host Barrington High School football team capped its championship season with a commanding 36-7 win over Mt. Hope in the annual Thanksgiving Day football game November 23 at the winners' Victory Field.

The Eagles, who won the 2023 Division II title, built a 15-0 first quarter lead against the Huskies and carried a 29-0 advantage into halftime. 

Mt. Hope’s defense forced the Eagles to convert two fourth down plays on the first drive of the game. Mt. Hope's lone score came in the waning moments of the game and with the outcome not in doubt. The Huskies’ fourth quarter touchdown came on a short pass from Riley Howland to Lucas Andreozzi. 

2022: Barrington, 41-13
The visiting Barrington High School football team scored four touchdowns during an eight-minute span of the second quarter en route to a decisive 41-13 victory over Mt. Hope in Bristol on November 24.

The Eagles eventually built a 27-0 lead by halftime after quarterback Alex McClelland, following a Huskies turnover, threw a touchdown pass to junior Evan Anderson with just over a minute remaining before the break.

Barrington would later build its lead to 41-0 before Mt. Hope’s Brock Pacheco managed two fourth quarter touchdown runs to help the Huskies avoid the shutout.

2021: Barrington, 23-3
In a game delayed by weather, Barrington High School got the better of Mt. Hope, 23-3, to win the sides' belated annual Thanksgiving Day football game in Barrington on Friday, Dec. 3, at Victory Field.

2020: No game due to COVID-19 pandemic
The annual Mt. Hope High-Barrington High Thanksgiving football game, like all other sports since March, was canceled by the Rhode Island Interscholastic League due to the lingering affects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The RIIL ended all athletic contests in the midst of the 2019-2020 winter sports playoffs after the pandemic spread across the state, region, country and world. The 2020 high school football season suffered the same fate that fall.

The sports did play an abbreviated season in the spring of 2021. Barrington went unbeaten at 7-0 en route to the Division II title. Mt. Hope, also in D-II at the time, went 2-2 in its regular season and did not qualify for the four-team playoff tournament.

2019: Barrington, 22-6
The Barrington High School football team broke open a tight game by scoring 14 points in the second half as the host Eagles defeat Mt. Hope, 22-6, in the teams' annual Thanksgiving Day football game on November 28.

The Huskies' lone touchdown came in the second period and made the score 8-6 by the break. Mt. Hope scored on a razzle-dazzle play with 14 seconds left in the first half to close the gap 8-6. Huskies sophomore quarterback Aidan Ramaglia took the snap and threw a pass to Jordan Pompey and he quickly threw a pass to Denson Bradford running a crossing route. Bradford got behind the Eagles defense for an easy six points.
