Fire fighters perform ice rescue drills Monday

Posted

There was no emergency. But if there had been, fire department members would have been ready to go. Dressed in day-glow exposure suits and carrying ice sleds, a drone and infrared equipment, firefighters from Westport's Unit 4 ventured out onto the thin ice off the Robert Street Beach Monday morning for ice rescue training — it was the first session in a series that when complete will see all fire fighters and paramedics participate. The drone was brought by Deputy Westport Police Chief Rob Rebello.
