Officials seeking more responses to comprehensive plan survey

Posted

The Town of Barrington is inviting residents and business owners to help shape its 2050 Comprehensive Plan.

The town has developed a survey and is asking people to respond to it by Tuesday, Oct. 8. Currently, around 300 people have offered responses, but officials would like to see a more robust collection of responses.

The Comprehensive Plan serves as a blueprint for the town's growth and development, outlining strategies for land use, facilities, services, and initiatives over a 20-year period. The plan is updated every 10 years, with an implementation report required every five years, as mandated by the Rhode Island Division of Statewide Planning.

The development of the 2050 Comprehensive Plan is a requirement of the Rhode Island Comprehensive Planning and Land Use Regulation Act, and community input is crucial for determining Barrington’s vision, goals, and priorities.

The plan will focus on several important areas for Barrington, including natural resources, outdoor recreation and open space, historical and cultural resources, housing, economic development and businesses, services and facilities, transportation, natural hazards and climate change, and land use.

Barrington’s current Comprehensive Plan was adopted in 2015. As the town looks toward the future, the community is encouraged to contribute ideas and feedback that will help guide the town’s strategic direction through 2050.
