The Mt. Hope High School indoor track and field teams completed their 2024-25 Headley Division regular season dual meet schedules Monday night, Jan. 13, at the Providence Career and Tech Academy Fieldhouse.

The girls swept their four outings, edging Smithfield, 48-46, while easily beating Cranston East, 61-25, Shea, 56-25, and Tolman, 54-29. The boys split their four decisions, beating Shea, 61-35, and Tolman, 55-49, but falling to Cranston East, 63-41, and Smithfield, 77-22.

Besides her previously reported school record-setting runs in the 55 meter dash (7.22) and 300 meters (43.2) at the World Trophies Invitiational a few days earler, Thea Jackson also won the 55 meter hurdles on the evening in 9.08 seconds. Chariho's Emily Brown was second at 9.42.  Huskies Emma Goglia (9.6) and  Lola Silva (9.96) were fourth and sixth, respectively.

Silva and Jackson, who in order just two days prior each topped the previous best in the event, switched places to go 1-2 in the long jump last week. Jackson covered 18 feet, 2 inches to win and Silva 16'11.5" to place second.

In the World Trophies Invitational held Saturday, Jan. 11, at the PCTA, Silva covered 18' 2.75." Jackson leapt 18'1.25." Silva set the previous mark of 17'9.75" just last winter.

Mt. Hope's Jessica Deal also had an impressive win in the January 13 Headley meet, clocking an 11:06.38 in the 3,000. Barrington's Evelyn Lefort was the runner-up in 11:12.35.

As for the boys on the track, Jackson Cicchinelli ran sixth overall and was first in the Mt. Hope duals with a time of 2:51.55 in the 1,000 while Gavin Stegall was 10th overall and second in duals with a time of 1:32.22 in the 600.

In the field, Quentin Smith had the highlight performance among a fine evening for the Mt. Hope throwers as he set a new personal record by three feet in the shot put with his toss of 34'6.75" to finish 10th overall and first in the duals. David Lowney was 12th overall and second to his mate with a throw of 31'8.5.

Smith and Wyatt Hancock also picked up second and third-place points for the Huskies with their distances of 31'7" and 27'11.5" in the 20-pound weight throw. The points in both events were the first scored by Mt. Hope throwers to date this season in duals.

This past weekend, January 18, the Huskies took part in the East Coast Invitational also at the PCTA Fieldhouse where Jackson won the girls' 200 meter race in a time of 25.95, bettering Caleah Baker of Bloomfield, Conn., who ran runner-up in 26.2.

Also from the varsity events, Silva placed fifth in the girls' long jump with a distance of 17'6." Ella Palisano
Mount Anthony Union High School in Vermont won the competition with a jump of 18'5.5."

Another of the highlights for Mt. Hope came from Alexander Deal, who set a new program mark for freshmen with a time of 12:11.46 in the boys' two-mile run.
