Julia Clorenta LaFlamme, 90, of Bristol

Julia Clorenta (Lombardi) LaFlamme, 90, of Bristol, died Sunday, May 9, 2021, at Newport Hospital, Newport, R.I.

She lived in the moment, always on the go, enjoying all the things she loved. Always with a smile, she loved being with her family and friends.

Born in Barrington, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Peitro and Giovannina (Conti) Lombardi.

Mrs. LaFlamme had worked as a certified nursing assistant at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol for 10 years, retiring in 1992. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Jean Brum and her husband Joseph of Warren, R.I.; two sisters, Phyllis Oliver of Barrington, R.I., and Inez Neveux of Warren, R.I.; three grandchildren, Christal Nichols, John Truver and Meghan Brum; and two great-grandchildren, Michael Truver and Victoria Nichols. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles “Chucky” LaFlamme and 14 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services and burial will be private.

Arrangements are by Smith Funeral & Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
