PORTSMOUTH — In cooperation with the Portsmouth Tree Commission, the Portsmouth Historical Society will host an Earth Day tree planting at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 24, in honor of the late Herbert Hall III, past president of the Society.

The tree is being provided by National Grid as part of its annual Earth Day donation to the town.

Mr. Hall, who died Jan. 27 at the age of 78, was a longtime member of the Historical Society, serving as custodian and treasurer, and was president from 1992 to 2015

The public is invited to the outdoor ceremony on the Portsmouth Historical Society Museum grounds at 870 East Main Road (corner of Union Street). Jim Garman, town historian and past president of the Society, will provide brief remarks on Mr. Hall’s long career with the Society.
