Letter: A little effort would go a long way
To the editor:
Two weeks ago I contacted the Warren DPW regarding the numerous pot holes along Long Lane, Barton Ave, and Touisset Road.
I was informed the DPW had purchased a new asphalt trailer, and it would registered within a day or two. To this day, the new, magic trailer sits in their yard, unregistered, waiting to be put into service. This brings up the obvious question…what on Earth did they do and how did roads get the minimal amount of repair they got before this new trailer was purchased? What exactly is prohibiting the DPW from using a dump truck or a flat bed, buying some cold patch, and fixing the major pot holes that cause traffic to enter the opposite lane to avoid tire and vehicle damage?
It is bad enough that for the amount of property tax we are required to pay, we get such limited value. In Touisset there are no hydrants, there is no water service, no sewers, no schools, no natural gas, and now there is no road maintenance. Has anyone seen the condition of Elizabeth Drive? There is not one square foot of solid roadway.
I fail to see how it is unreasonable to demand some accountability and some results for the taxes we are required to pay for the simple privilege of living in Warren. They refuse to consider a private contractor to do the work when they are unwilling and or unable to do it, and in the meantime weeks and weeks pass while conditions continue to worsen with no end in sight. Is this really the best the Town can do?
I would ask the people of Warren to do their part, call the Warren DPW at 401-245-0200 and demand better of them. Tell them about the conditions on your street, and tell them how you feel about their performance, or lack thereof. Clearly the DPW has options besides waiting for a trailer to be registered, and we the residents of Warren should expect better results from our Town DPW for the taxes we pay.
We have to weigh in to drop off grass clippings from our own yards, Town roads crumble away, and the residents just have to endure. Does this seem fair?
